Ken Follett finds a way to write everything perfectly the way this situation would happen: the main characters acted level-headed in their actions. This is what is terrifying about this book, it can feasibly happen. Even with the best intentions, people can suffer.

A bunch of people suck at being losers and decide to doom humanity rather than lose face. Also they pointlessly track drugs across Africa in a story that has little to no relation to the final part of the book.

Straight up American propaganda, this book is admittedly probably rather accurate in how the world will be wiped out however that didn’t make it more compelling, it just made me angrier.

You know that John Mulaney clip where he stretches out his arms and goes "Okay-okay-okay-okay" as if trying to stop two sides from attacking each other? That's what this book feels like. It does take a while to properly set the stage and ramp up, but when it does it is nerve-wracking. Follet masterfully builds tense situations that first fill you with hope, a feeling of "okay, they found a way to solve this, it'll be fine", only to remind you that there's a few hundred pages left. At multiple points I had to stop reading for a short while because I was feeling overwhelmed by the escalating disasters. I would recommend this book to most people, but be careful if you're someone who gets stressed out easily because this is a lot.

This book was fantastic, it was really hard to put it down. I really loved the characters of Abdul and Kiah and could have read an entire story just about them two.

The only issue I had with this book is that it really needs an epilogue. The ending is fast paced but I found it to be slightly disappointing, I really thought it could have benefited from an epilogue set a few years in the future.
