This delightful story was made even more delightful by the performance of Johanna Parker on the audio version I listened to. In the story Mandalay Florentino is a Hollywood production assitant working with a 'American Idol' type show. She travels to Texas to film the hometown segment for the sweet and naive Amber Anderson, all the while hoping word hasn't leaked out and that the media won't be on her tale. As Mandalay (or 'Amanda Lee' as the Texans call her) deals with the ups and downs of her professional and personal life the narrator nails the character of the story and give each character just the right voice, making the story come alive. Mandalay of course finds success, love and happiness but learns quite a few lessons from the small town folk of Texas--and helps them learn some lessons about life and faith as well. Give this one a read or listen if you enjoy fun quirky stories with strong female characters, small town values, and memorable characters.

Maybe I should have been more patient. I couldn't waste my time on this book, though.

Light read. Not in the same class as her other books.

Talk of the Town by Lisa Wingate
American Megastar travels to Daley, TX
Amber Anderson will be the hometown girl for the show. Manda juggles the job, the media and the secret that could blow this whole thing apart.
She keeps coming up with a hometown guy. It seems the whole town already knows the secret. The reunion concert has to be unforgettable and is with the
help of the others in town and her grandfather. Can she keep it quiet to pull this off or will somebody in town spill the beans.
Lot of big Hollywood episodes to make you think anything is possible.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Very cute "beach read" but with some good life lessons tucked in. I really enjoyed this book.

Ahh, the chick in me won over on this one. There is more depth to it than pure gratuitous chickishness, which probably was the biggest selling point. A fun, uplifting read.

What might have been completely silly (had the story been told only by Mandalay) gains interest in the alternating perspective of Imagene. This is not to say the book doesn't still have its absurdities, but somehow they are leavened by the addition of age and wisdom. Obviously intended for escapism, the novel doesn't shy from an over-the-top peppering of predictability and eccentric small-town caricatures. Still, charming almost in spite of itself.

It was a bit confusing at first, with it being in 1st person and going back between two different characters. But after a bit, I got used to it. I loved the romance level and overall sweetness in this book. The surprises just kept on coming, and it was very entertaining. Must-read!
