Could not really understand the MC's motivations for his actions. Although I do understand that the autho  seeks to include elements of absurdism and existentialism in hos text, making the main character take a man's life for no rhyme or reason seems rather bizarre. Expected something a bit different. A person does not have to be an apathetic murderer (that too for no reason) to be the exemplar of such isms. His personality was rather peculiar, and he took accountability for almost none of his actions.

I came into this without knowing anything, other than it was a widely regarded classic. I leave without being able to describe a lot of it, which strikes me as quite a Meursault-ish review. It's a story about a man who speaks to me at some primal level; the world continues, and we make our actions, and...people move around us.

It's a short read and one that has left me a lot of thoughts that I cannot, clearly, put into words.

This was truly the worst book I’ve ever read. Not only was the main character completely insufferable but all the other characters were equally as awful. The idea of the main character being an “ordinary man” is disturbing. Nothing about him is ordinary in my book. The only thing I liked about the book was it’s overall creepy and dark tone. Otherwise I thought it was pointless, there is no development or growth. It was dull and borderline unreadable.

Maybe I just completely missed the mark but I’m 99.9% certain the main character is a psychopath and truly has no emotions. He has no redeeming qualities. Allowing Raymond to do what he did is literally exhibit A.
Also Marie is a complete idiot.

I found myself unable to emotionally connect with the main characters. The Stranger's plot and characters seem to only serve the purpose of demonstrating Albert Camus' arguments in favor of existentialist philosophy. I think this book should have been published as non-fiction so that readers don't have to endure the unbearably unlikeable and sad sack story of Meursault.
