The fates of the Baldwine clan are revealed as the various mysteries plaguing the characters throughout the series are resolved. A bit conveniently wrapped up, but hey, this is fun, ridiculous reading. I could definitely see this series developed into a lush television show.

Such an incredible series!! So different than Ward's Brotherhood books, but you can tell these are from her. The voice is different, because of the setting and class, but the same.

I've been on the edge of my seat with all three books and devoured them one after the other. I learned a ton about bourbon and Kentucky. ;) And now I feel the need to visit the State and try some of its incredible drink.

The cast was amazing... flawed and incredibly damaged by someone they should have been able to trust, but they actually grew over time. Watching their healing, in all the different stages, was so hard at moments. Love in all its shapes and sizes was the main focus. Family doesn't necessarily have to be blood to mean the most.

The ending felt satisfying beyond belief, and left me super content, knowing where everyone stood. And thank goodness!!

My greatest frustration with The Bourbon Kings will forever be the fact that it is a trilogy when it could have been a series of 8 books or so, one for each major character.

This book frustrated me. I can't say I hated it, because the fate of my beloved characters was that which I hoped for, for the most part, yet it didn't leave me completely satisfied either.

I think there were quite a few characters such as Max Baldwine, Jeff, Mack, Shelby and even Amelia Baldwine whose importance and potential was diminished in a certain way exactly because there wasn't time to do more.

I also didn't quite like the way how the major problems of the Bradford/Baldwine family were solved. I mean, so much time was spent around them and then all of a sudden they were solved.

For example, I don't think Richard Pford would have given up that easily on making Gin's life a living hell. And the real killer of William Baldwine? It makes sense except for a little tidbit. I really don't see that person cutting down a man's finger, after his death, no matter how much of a bastard he was.

All in all, I guess it all felt a bit anticlimactic to me. I am certain that if there had been more books all of these issues would have been taken care of in a different way.

However, this book was still a solid 4 stars. It's J. R. Ward we're talking about and she has a talent for drama and creating tortured characters with hidden layers, which makes it impossible for you to be indifferent to them.

Recommended.

After "The Angels' Share" I'm sure going to need strength to go through this maze of perdition.

Please, please, please WARDen! Give us something.
