Goddess of the Sea

You know what? I totally loved this book. At first I was worried it would be just another fairytale retelling that would entertain me for some hours and I would forget after some days, but I was so wrong.

I took my time with this book because I liked it so much. I enjoyed the twist to one of my favorite tales, the modern touch that the author gave to it, and most of all the female power that was the core of the book. I didn't mind the romance that was a bit too cliche at times or the erotic theme, because all I cared for was how strong women were in this book. Their weaknesses were bare for everyone to see and through them they all became stronger. I totally loved that.
Wonderful book. Surely I will read it again.

23/7/2019: I did read it again. Fun fact: Both times I've read this book, I was by the sea. I still love it.
24/11/2021: This time I wasn't by the sea but I was working on something mermaid related :)

Wow I love all books by P.C. Cast. And this series doesn't disappoint. It's quite a fast paced book and pulls you in straightaway, a quick easy read. Highly recommend reading this series

I don't know how this book can have such a high score...
Okay, I pushed myself to finish this book even though I didn't like it from the start. But I told myself maybe it's gonna get better, maybe the end of the book will somehow raise my opinion and I'll think something better, nicer. Maybe it's just rocky start.
But no. I mean...if you like super sweet romances, light reading, red library books etc, this book may be for you. If you're looking for some interesting storyline, tension, characters and mainly good mythology, don't read it. You'll be disappointed.
I know, people are different, they enjoy different reading and stories... So yeah, the author(s?) is good in writing for her specific audience. But I'm not a part of this audience, so in my right mind I just can't rate this book higher than one star. It was predictable from the start to the end, the storyline was pretty much 'eh' and I couldn't push myself into liking CC.

P.S. CC is a truly horrible name.
P.P.S. mareman with a penis hidden somewhere in his tail is something I can't unread. Why would you do that to me?!?!?

The book opened up with U.S. Air Force sergeant Christine Canady home alone on her birthday. Feeling almost sorry for herself she starts to drink champagne and decides to pull out an old book and recite an invocation. Little did she know that her "wish" was about to come true.

Next chapter, her plane crashes into the ocean and when she wakes up she is back in time. Not exactly sure when (might have said some date in the book) just a LONG time ago. Anyway, so with her wish the goddess Gaea trades her soul with that of her mermaid daughter Undine.

The story goes on to tell how Undine is the daughter of both she and Poseidon and that Undine was born a mermaid so must remain in the sea. Undine, naturally, longs to stay on land but Poseidon loves his daughter too much to let her go. Meanwhile, there is a nasty merman named Sarpedon that wants to have Undine for his own. I think you get the picture...

To get away from Sarpedon, Gaea gifts her with human form. She still has to return to the sea and take her mermaid form once each third night or she will sicken and die. Now as she is being sent to to land to find "the man who can accept and love you" she meets a merman named Dylan. Once on land she meets Andras... And so the story goes, will she find true love on land with Andras or is she really meant to be in the sea with Dylan.

A nice heartwarming romance with a few twist and turns. I just wish there was more interaction with the Gods and Goddesses... but then there's always the next book.

Very good. It was soo good and i find myself tearing up at the end. I can't wait for the next book.
