Honestly, I still only really remember the movie. I think this was good, but it didn’t really end up sticking with me.

I only picked this up because I liked the movie. I was surprised that this book inspired someone to make anything. I know I've seen this author's name floating around, so I wouldn't say I had high hopes, but I did expect more. I didn't jive with any of these characters or the narrative. What I did get through was just boring. It's just not worth my time.

I know I shouldn't compare it to the movie, but the movie was so much better. This book sucked. Plain and simple. The characters were unlikable. It didn't give me even a sliver of the magical feeling I expected. Most of it felt like filler. Not much substance. Ugh. Such a disappointment.

Jesus someone get Alice Hoffman a cold shower. 
I'm not sure if this was meant to be a coming of age story, a romance novel, a story about family and sisterhood, a mystery, or a horror. It didn't really succeed at any one of those things. This is a story about women who swear off love and desire and yet do nothing but think about it, even the 12/13 year old. If I took out all of the horniness, this book may be only about 30 pages long. It's slow, and the build up to Jimmy's ultimate demise is ridiculously long compared to how quick the conclusion is.

Has some nice writing, but not what I was expecting. Very little magic. DV, SA and obsessive relationships more at the center.
