Well, this book just proved I find Münster a whole lot more interesting of a character than Van Veeteren. It feels like —for now— his character has way more depth and flaws compared to the main character of this series. But we'll see what the next installment brings. It are fun, quick reads to fill some gaps with, so it's fine!

Overall I enjoyed this one quite a bit. An interesting case with twists I didn't see coming. We delve deeper into stuff that's been troubling Münster and his marriage for the whole series. Van Veeteren is enjoying his new job but can't help it to still get involved in the case. Family drama. Other characters get fleshed out too.

Fun book!

Four friends win the lottery, one is brutally murdered and one disappears. Then there’s the disappearance of the landlady of the murder victim, confessions and still more goings on. All combine to set the scene for Van Veeteren..

In this the 6th book in the van veeteren series the inspector is enjoying a year's sabbatical manning a second hand bookshop (this elevates him to top of my favourite detective league) and he plays a low key role in this well crafted story about the brutal murder of a lottery winner.
I'll leave the plot to future readers but it is a page turner and the last word is left to van veeteren when he perfectly compares the events to one of the Shakespearean tragedies that he is reading. Can't wait to read book 7.

I read this in a little more than a day. It starts slowly but reaches a point when the reader and investigator knows there is more to the story. I got this at the library but spotted it in paperback at my local indie bookstore yesterday.
