This book was everything I hoped it would be—both informative and hilarious. It’s been a long time since I’ve laughed so hard reading any type of book, let alone an educational one. Just an absolute delight to read.
Honest t God, I don't like physics.
At all.
Yet, Randall Munroe made a fun, informative, helluva good book out of the complicated answers to unbelievable questions that our 5 years old minds may wonder about (sor people actually asked him on his website, this is a bunch of his answers and drawings) about almost every interesting thing in, on, and out of this planet.
He made his explanation filled wit imagery, which I realy loved, the mental images of expanding planet of fur, horses in an open kitchen mixer, a single water drop of rain water hanging on the curtains of the sky.. and many other crazy unforgettable images might stick wit me for a very long time with the consepts they speak about.. those images were made by his expanding knowledge an understanding, simplified to be understood even by people like me, who needs a fun push.

It is a very funny and dumbed down way of science. Has a lot of good fun fact stuff.

I really enjoy books like this. People have submitted interesting "What if" questions and the author, in most cases researches and elaborates on the answer. There were several times the author read the question then processes to have not significant or scientific comment. It was a lot like "Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs?" By Caitlin Doughty although instead of being about death this book was more science-based.
This book was funny and informative. While listening to the book and frequently hearing about Earth's eventual demise; I reflected all our buildings and history will eventually, become vapor. All the real estate people fight for? In the long, long run is for nothing... Very existential.
I know I will listen to this book again.

Perfect book to read while you're reading a dense book. Not compelling so easy to pick up & put down, but great hilarious scientific examinations of hypothetical scenarios.
I loved this. I learned so many things that I didn't know I wanted to know. I know the logistics about building an intercontinental bridge out of Lego bricks (impractical) and I know what will happen if you swim in a nuclear reactor pool (nothing). But I think the coolest thing I now know is what happens if you try to create a bullet with the density of a neutron star (do not try this).
The writing is written in a way that makes me feel smugly superior about reading nonfiction but lets face it, there's really nothing too complicated in here. Crazy physics equations and chemical reactions are humorously and succinctly explained with Munroe's trademark stick figure drawings. There is even footnotes, and I do enjoy a good footnote.
I'd recommend this to anyone that likes people to think they're smart and anyone who likes learning useless trivia.
