As a living human being who enjoys the absurdity of the author's widely popular webcomic XKCD, it physically pains me (not really, I'm just a drama queen) that until a few days ago, I didn't know Randall writes books. Further research upon discovering this new information led me to this book, the first book I finished reading in 2023. It's simply unputdownable and immensely entertaining. To a person like me who finds spending hours at a time reading boring articles on Wikipedia delightful, the way Randall presents the answers to the absurd hypothetical questions was almost too entertaining (in a good way). I wish he answered some of the 'weird and worrying questions' without skipping them, as I am a horrid human who finds 'weird and worrying questions' amusing.
A brilliant book to kick off 2023 with!

Ever wonder how many laser pointers we'd have to point at the moon to be able to see it from earth? What a mole (chemistry term) of moles (small rodents) would look like? Any other silly physics ponderings?
The excruciating detail of this book should make it dry, but instead, it makes is hilarious and fascinating. It is a fun read for people who like to think and twist their brain in funny directions and learn stuff along the way.

AMAZING BOOK ! So informative, very well and simply explained, perfect tone and writing style, highly creative, surprisignly funny, ... Amazing !
I actually had to listen to this book twice using audible to make sure that I go everything. It was absolutely enjoyable and gave me a lot to think about.

This was a really interesting read, I think my favorite part was the weird and worrying questions sections.
Audiobook is especially awesome. Read by Wil Wheaton.
This is a fantastic book. Funny, smart, a little dark, a little weird. It tackles all sorts of scientific questions with clarity, humor and general awesomeness.
This is the best book answering hypothetical questions relating to science.*
