'A jazz ensemble is one of the few places on Earth where you will find people from different generations listening to each other with respect and genuine interest'

I don't read much non-fiction but when I was given this beautiful memoir as a gift I was intrigued. The cover is stunning and the prose this book is written in is engaging and relatable to musicians of all ages. The exploration of self through music and what that looks like as you grow up is fascinating.

'I had become so focused on solo performance for the sake of competition and advanced grades I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed playing with others. It was fun, it was pointless, so I stopped.'

This book reminded me of my experiences with music and how above all things, the creation of music should be enjoyable. I highly recommend this book to musicians looking for a relatable and thought-provoking story.
