Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger

This novel was really something, and it definitely provides the reader a lot to think about and ponder on throughout and after. The epilogue was a great touch, and actually the entire book was really great. I liked this a lot. Actually was about to start to read This Tender Land, and then I learned that this was somewhat of an older brother to it, so I went into this one first. The audiobook includes an interview with William Kent Krueger at the end which I enjoyed a lot.

After I read THE RIVER WE REMEMBER last year, I knew I had to dive into this author’s backlist!

I get pulled into his stories from page 1 and never want to put them down. This is only my second by him, but his stories seemed to center on Midwest, small towns, post war and deal with so many themes while also being a piece of history of the time and a mystery throughout. While I enjoyed RIVER more, I’m excited to read more from him!

**my biggest frustration with this author (and many male authors in general) is their need to graphically describe women’s bodies. The size of three different women’s breasts were discussed and it’s just gross and adds nothing to the story. Ugh.

Thought provoking and very well written. Though there were parts of the story I really would have liked to see be explored more in depth, I really enjoyed reading this book.

I read this book to complete the Book Girls “Lifetime of Reading” challenge. The prompt was to read a story told from the perspective of a teenager. I had mixed feelings while reading this book. I think I went into it believing that it was more of a mystery novel, but that doesn’t accurately describe this book. It is definitely more of a coming-of-age story and touches on themes of grief, forgiveness and grace.

I listened to the audiobook version and enjoyed the narrator. There were some parts that kept me hooked, and other portions where I struggled to stay engaged. I know many others really enjoyed this story, but it didn’t personally speak to me in the same way.
