I get pulled into his stories from page 1 and never want to put them down. This is only my second by him, but his stories seemed to center on Midwest, small towns, post war and deal with so many themes while also being a piece of history of the time and a mystery throughout. While I enjoyed RIVER more, I’m excited to read more from him!
**my biggest frustration with this author (and many male authors in general) is their need to graphically describe women’s bodies. The size of three different women’s breasts were discussed and it’s just gross and adds nothing to the story. Ugh.

I listened to the audiobook version and enjoyed the narrator. There were some parts that kept me hooked, and other portions where I struggled to stay engaged. I know many others really enjoyed this story, but it didn’t personally speak to me in the same way.
