Love-hate relationship with this book. Hard to feel bad for character cause the book keeps you thinking she did something but halfway through you find she didn't actually do things as bad as it made it seem and you just get kinda mad at her. Sigh. Still gonna read the next one though.

Molly Barlowe is home for the summer, 99 days to be exact, between returning from her boarding school and leaving for college. She feels like all of her friends and most of her peers have turned against her. After her long time boyfriend broke up with her, she had a one night stand with his brother. It had been kept under wraps until her mother wrote a best selling book about it. When the whole town found out, they turned on her and Molly left and attended school out of state. Now she’s back and facing everyone’s wrath. She find a job and tries to get through the summer.

This book was a long story of a girl with no spine who ruins a family twice. The books central love story ends with an unsatisfactory, ambiguous ending and some implication that the main girl has slightly more backbone in the wake of reruining everyone else's lives.

I had a lot of problems with the book and the main character. Molly had no moral compass what so ever and while it does take two, to do what she did it still wasn’t right. I couldn’t relate to anyone in the book and the slut shaming was absolutely ridiculous. The writing wasn’t terrible but the plot needed some kinks worked out. It felt like this book was just thrown together and all the characters were drowning. It’s a fast paced read, but wasn’t for me.

99 Days is a book about facing your mistakes, and learning to start over. When Molly’s mom turns her biggest mistake into a best-selling novel, Molly’s first instinct is to run. After being away at boarding school for the past year, it’s time for her to return to her small town for the summer, to face the past she left behind, and the biggest mistake she ever made.

It’s not often that I read a book where I felt both sympathy and insane frustration for a main character. That’s exactly how I felt about Molly while I was reading this book. There were SO many decisions that she made throughout the story that made me shake my head, or really, made me want to shake some sense into her. But then, in a way, I kind of get why she did the things that she did. Not that I agree with them at all, but I get it. Otherwise, I love how strong her character seemed to be. While all that was going on around her, when everyone blamed only her for what happened, she stayed headstrong, and didn’t let anyone bring her down. I always find that admirable.

All of the characters in the book are very well written. No one is perfect in this story; a few of them are super far from it, but they are all interesting nonetheless. I think Gabe was my favorite character in the whole book, and even he had many flaws. There are also characters in the book that you are REALLY going to hate, or at least I did. I didn’t appreciate at all how some of the girls treated Molly. Yes, she made a few bad choices in the book, but I don’t see how that was any of their business at all, and it made me SO angry how they treated her.

I’m not a huge fan of drama, but in this book, it was addictive! And it wasn’t just the drama, this whole book was addictive. Even while was reading it and thing how completely wrong so many things were as I turned the pages, I still couldn’t stop reading the book. It was this really weird type of intense, one that was, at times, uncomfortable. And I just HAD to know how it was all going to end. Also, I really enjoyed the writing style for the book, and that each chapter was written for the specific day in Molly’s life. I really enjoyed the ending of the book as well.

Overall; while this book made me super uncomfortable in parts, I still really enjoyed reading it. I liked that the book was different than what I expected, that the characters and decisions made were so imperfect, and that the storyline was so realistic. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from Katie Cotugno soon.

Happy Reading!!

Day 1: Julia Donnelly eggs my house my first night back in Star Lake, and that’s how I know everyone still remembers everything—how I destroyed my relationship with Patrick the night everything happened with his brother, Gabe. How I wrecked their whole family. Now I’m serving out my summer like a jail sentence: Just ninety-nine days till I can leave for college, and be done.

Day 4: A nasty note on my windshield makes it clear Julia isn’t finished. I’m expecting a fight when someone taps me on the shoulder, but it’s just Gabe, home from college and actually happy to see me. “For what it’s worth, Molly Barlow,” he says, “I’m really glad you’re back.”

Day 12: Gabe got me to come to this party, and I’m actually having fun. I think he’s about to kiss me—and that’s when I see Patrick. My Patrick, who’s supposed to be clear across the country. My Patrick, who’s never going to forgive me.

Look at that cover, the title. Those two things were what captured my attention first and had me pick up a book, to see what it was about. Cover itself is unique, unlike the covers that I see on the books these days and that was one of effects that caught my attention. Of course the title too 99 Days it’s a type of title that has the reader ask themselves a question: 99 Days Of what? It was the first one that I asked myself, before reading what the book about. However I felt like I was hooked to the story already. I was already finding myself what was going to happen. 99 days wasn’t what I had expected to be, but it was my type of book. I did not want to pull myself away till I reached the end of the novel. It had love, friendship, and drama. For me, it was hard not to love the book. At beginning I was bit hesitant about the book, considering I read few negative reviews about the book. 99 days turned out to be one of those novels that I am glad I decided to check out anyways. 99 days had my attention from the first sentence to the last. A novel that is worth every page.

Molly: I’m not sure how I feel about her character. In beginning I felt sorry for her. I thought that way everyone seemed to be treating her when she came back wasn’t fair. Everybody makes mistakes, doesn’t mean that they deserve the harassment that Molly was getting. However, after what happened with her and Patrick while she was with Gabe, I wasn’t sure what to think of her. To me it seemed like she couldn’t make up between the two brothers, she kept going back and forth. I was surprised it even happened, considering how much Patrick made it clear when she came back that he wanted nothing to do with her. I had a big feeling through it all, that Patrick was using her. I felt more of connection between Molly and Gabe, he treated her better, supported her unlike Patrick when they were together. It sucks way it ended, but then it’s her own fault. Gabe wasn’t only one she hurt. I liked Tess and she just messed up their friendship. There were times through book that I wanted to tell her to Stop, to think about what she was doing. By end of the book I still had mixed feelings about Molly, she was bit of conflicted character.

I loved fact that this book wasn’t written in chapters, but in days and once I started reading the book, those days made sense why the book is titled 99 days. To me, it made a book seem more like of diary and it was easier to connect with Molly, with her character. Maybe that’s why I had conflicted emotions about character, due to fact that I knew so much about her. Since the novel took a place during summertime, once I reached the end of it, I wondered: What happened to Molly next? Did her and Gabe ever reconnect? The one thing that I noticed changed quite bit by the end, is her and her mother’s relationship. At beginning, I could tell she was angry with her mother because she wrote bestseller based on her daughter’s love life. But at the end, her mother was always there for her. Like when everything fell apart again. Molly just couldn’t seem to catch a break. It’s for best that she left, started over somewhere else. I loved everything about 99 days.

99 Days is beautifully written, filled with so much emotions, that you find yourself feeling them. A Story about Love, Loss, starting over , mistakes. If you like stories with a twists and lots of drama, 99 Days is a book you should check out.

The main character is indecisive, 18 year old Molly Barlow. Who happens to be in a love triangle with two brother: Patrick and Gabe Donnelly. Now I am a sucker for romance but I was just not really feeling it. Patrick is Molly’s best friend turned lover, but the chemistry between them wasn’t there, leaving us to root for his brother Gabe. Molly and Gabe have more romance in my opinion but its a slippery slope. Gabe is portrayed as a bad boy. The Donnelly brothers also have a sister, Julia… She was Molly’s old bff, now enemy. Leaving Molly to be bullied with one friend left, Imogen. This story is 50 shades of wtf at times, where there is cheating, family drama, and bullying all rolled into one. I rate this 3/5 stars. It is childish but readers do need to remember they are only 18!
