once upon a time, i had a blog, but here is my review off it. yikes! im going to keep my original thoughts but dang the GROWTH
----------------
This book is about a girl named Molly, who leaves her hometown behind after junior year when the world finds out she cheated on her boyfriend with his older brother. Ouch. This book follows her coming back to the place she called home and the challenges she faces gaining respect back.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

First thing I want to talk about is her mom situation. HER MOM PUBLISHED A BOOK THAT WAS BASED OFF HER DAUGHTER. The book was the reason everyone found out she cheated on her boyfriend because her mom had writers block and decided to get inspiration from her daughter. Reading that part early in the story made me kind-of sympathize with Molly.

the two brothers, Patrick and Gabe. Gabe was the older brother that Molly cheated on Patrick with and Molly displays countless times that she loves those Donnellys’ boys. Molly was an alright character since she was trying to change and reunite with her best friend again. She started going steady with Gabe (man oh man were they cuties) and Patrick was happy with another girl named Tess who was such a nice character. Patrick was learning to become friends with Molly again since he hated her for so long. She also reunites with another old friend named Julia, whose another Donnelly but has hated her since the secret came out, calling her rude names.

Then like every girl protagonist, she has to do something dumb, she starts catching feelings for Patrick and starts cheating. They had these random make out sessions and I just keeping thinking “they are going to get caught.” This book titles the chapters by the day like Day 35, Day 60 etc. At Day 85, the world finds out about her and Patrick and of course she runs. This incident happening was one of the best things because she learns that those brothers were in a competition for her heart and she felt like it was a game to them. She confronts both of them and doesn’t get back with either of them.

The book ends with her running to Boston for college, leaving the summer behind. I can’t even say whose side I was on since the beginning I was Gabe, then I switched to Patrick so basically I’m as confused as Molly. This book was amazing.

Books are supposed to make you feel something. Feel the joy of first love, feel the fear of a tough parental situation, the thrill of breaking a rule, the angst of being a teen, etc. THIS BOOK MADE ME FEEL NOTHING EXCEPT HATE.

First off, dragging out the big reveal about Molly and Patrick and Gabe was useless, and immensely annoying. From the get-go, we know that Molly cheated on The One, and dragging out the back story of that scandal was very annoying.

Secondly, Molly learned absolutely zilch. She cheated in The One with his brother, then moseys back to the brother to then cheat on him with The One. Seriously. The entire book was Molly doing the exact same thing over again. And again. And again. She made no change whatsoever, and her character went through no growth.

Thirdly, I despise her mother. Nothing gave Molly's mother the right to do what she did, no matter how she may try to excuse it. I had a very bitter taste left in my mouth after we met Molly's mom.

Fourthly, I disliked every single character. I hated Patrick for being clichéd, stupid, lying, manipulating, etc. I hated Gabe for the same reasons. I hated Molly because she was just such a horrible, careless person, only worrying about herself. I disliked Imogen, Tess, and Julia.

Honestly, there were no redeeming qualities in this book except that the writing was pretty decent.

So this did not end well. I had read another book by the same author (How to Love) some time back and had I remembered it's the same author, I would not have ever touched this book. Because that book was an absolute disaster. Unfortunately this doesn't fare much better. To begin with, I don't understand the author's obsession with infidelity and her glorifying it in some twisted, emotional sort of way.

When I had the read the synopsis, I had imagined it to be a completely different kind of story with Molly and Patrick having some kind of misunderstanding that involved protecting Gabe, and them clearing it up and living happily ever after. Even when the plot didn't turn out to be exactly that, I was not put off. It was a fresh perspective. It was only when the cheating started that I just couldn't take it anymore. The first time I could understand because first, it wasn't cheating to begin with as Patrick and Molly were broken up and Molly was just hurt and tired and lonely and broken, with a person in front of her who liked her and made her a little less of all those things. I get that. But the second time, she was in a loving relationship, falling in love with the perfect guy (her words!). Then why would she go ahead and cheat with someone who keeps messing her up. That is something I'll never get around to and honestly isn't the kind of thing that should be endorsed. No one (especially Tess) should have to go through that. It was all downhill from that point on.

The only salvaging point was the end when Molly finally stands up for herself at least once in her lifetime. Also that she ends up with none of the brothers because honestly she doesn't deserve Gabe, and Patrick just doesn't deserve anyone. As far as recommending the book, I think the rating and review are enough for someone to make a decision. As for me, I'm never picking up a Cotungo book ever again. I've just had enough of this stuff.

3,5.

The writing style confused me tons. The main character would be having flashbacks but then I got confused. The transitions from past day to present day were not seamless at all. I only really liked Imogene, Tess, and sometimes Gabe. I did absolutely adore Penn and her children but hated everything else about the book. I’m not even gonna bother picking up the sequel.

description

I was rooting for you! Tú, con tu hermosa portada y tu sinopsis prometedora, has resultado ser uno de los peores YA Contemporáneos que he leído. Y mira que he leído muchos.

Julia, Gabe y Patrick. Los odio a todos. Con su descontrol y lujuria que esconden tras charlas de supuesto amor. Con su egoísmo. Con su destrucción de los lazos familiares. Y, sobretodo, con su falta de arrepentimiento. Los odio.

i really like the author. i like molly’s narration. i loved gabe. this book would have got at least another start from me if patrick simply…… did not exist. i mean he seriously sucks. how can you do something like that to your first love? even if she broke your heart. i just really. hate. patrick. looking forward to the next book and really hoping he’s not even mentioned.

I CAN'T BRING MYSELF TO LIKE THIS BOOK. I know slut-shaming is a big no no but I freaking hated Julia. I mean, if you don't want to be called a slut then please don't sleep around. Sexual attraction and love are two very different things. Besides, your mind rules over your body not the other way around. Gabe can do better! UGHHHH...
