This is a brilliant and compelling analysis of how digital algorithms are shaping culture into a flattened homogenous dopamine drip — but Kyle Chayka doesn’t just paint a dour picture, he poses radical alternatives to reclaim our world from tech behemoths

The content of this book is brilliant and phenomenal. It’s just that it’s written so dryly that it’s hard to work through. Still with it.

Great read. Things are bleak for culture, but not the end of the world, and we can make changes to how we interact with it.

While I enjoyed this book very much, I had heard and agreed with most of its message and so the actual text didn’t add much for me, personally.
I think someone who hasn’t thought or read much about our current filter/algorithm zeitgeist will get so much more out of this.
Still, a well written and approachable book that doesn’t get bogged down in academic language is a good thing!

Pretty solid book. Great way to stretch the brain and see how online is shaping IRL even if we don’t want to engage. At times feels like it pushes the neutrality of technology which I view as a fallacy. Best when talking in the author’s wheelhouse of art and music.
I got what the book had to offer and the rest really felt pretentious.
