This book should have been an essay. While I'm glad to have this lens to view the world through, Chayka's impact was flattened by repetition in both argument and format. Like, stop harping on minimalist cafés even after learning that the aesthetic was propelled by limited means to open businesses and recycling old materials, damn.

I enjoyed the first part of this book, but then felt it moved away from being informative to a little preachy about how we live, as opposed to really interrogate the way that algorithms influence our choices

I really enjoyed the first half and there were good examples throughout the book. The other half got a bit too specific by zooming in on specific people. Nicely written and easy to read.
