Good look at homogenization in culture, why it happens, and the effects of it. If you're already very familiar with this topic (as I was too) this won't have the most groundbreaking material in it. Most of what he discussed were things I had previously known, though I believe there was still valuable new information to be gleaned from the book. While reading this I found myself being far more wary and perceptive of the ways in which my different media accounts were trying to influence me while I used them.

I think this is a must read for anyone who does not know much about how social media/streamers/etc. influence your decisions and worm their way into your life in a harmful way, even if you don't view them as harmful.

Het is een duidelijke analyse van de invloed van sociale media op ons dagelijks leven. Ik zie dit als een boek dat verder bouwt op Adorno's cultuurindustrie, er zijn zelfs bepaalde gedachtes aanwezig die ook exact bij Adorno voorkomen (ook al is dit totaal geen filosofisch boek, en is dit niet geschreven met Adorno in gedachten). Misschien is dit door het feit dat ik hier veel mee bezig ben, maar ik vond het wat repetitief of niet uitgebreid genoeg na een tijd. De eerste hoofdstukken zijn heel sterk, maar de tweede helft vind ik wat minder zowel qua inhoud als qua relevantie. Hij is nogal vaak nostalgisch naar zijn jeugd en hoe sociale media toen was, of hij vroeger muziek kon downloaden etc., wat geen probleem zou zijn mocht hij er ook effectief een punt mee maken.
