This was an incredibly disturbing book to read. I think it was really good as it went from the past to future and showed how the mans, Strane, grooming and abuse affected her mindset even into adulthood.

As the authour said "It should be difficult to read and it should even be difficult to talk about but I feel like as a culture we're at a moment where we're ready to lean into these questions"

I think it's an important conversation and I'm not sure how I wish it was different but it invokes these complicated feeling on purpose and therefore I have to say it's a book that accomplishes it's goals/is successful.

This book is extremely dark and disturbing so be careful when reading. I still haven’t fully been able to wrap my head around what I just read, and how/what I feel about it.

First up, this book is very explicit and possibly triggering!! Some scenes were really hard to read.
The relationship between Vanessa and Strane was written in a way that left me speechless. Especially in the beginning, I could actually emphasize with Vanessa's decisions even though I knew what the book was about. Strane's character is so well written, it shocked me a little.

He's so manipulate and convincing that I sometimes thought "well, you're just exaggerating, this wasn't that bad" when in reality it really was!!

Vanessa is an interesting protagonist and I liked experiencing all of this from her perspective.
3 stars because some parts were a little lengthy and I found myself zoning out, plus I didn't like the ending:((
Would still highly recommend though!!
