I listened to the book in audiobook form, I enjoyed it so much that I’m buying the physical copy. A few characters got on my nerves, but overall I really enjoyed it

i usually dont say a lot about the production of the audiobook bc i like to just focus on the words, but emily woo zeller was an amazing narrator. zeller expressed the characters with a dynamic range of pitches and timbre that really allowed me to get lost in the story.

this book really made me feel intensely for ever and her struggles, and i didn't run into the issue of being frustrated with a protag because they were ignoring simple solutions to their problems. i found ever to be creative and impulsive, and that was really compelling to me. sophie was also such a fun character to get to know, with her many facets -- though i do wish her actions had been dissected a little more, or that she had really owned up to them.

i honestly loved the detail put into each of the characters -- the core group of students that ever was friends with were so distinct, in and of themselves. this created an incredibly fleshed out and varied setting, which i thoroughly enjoyed.

This is an excellent read. It wasn't just a cute romance, it dealt with more mature themes, such as, trying to live up to expectations, and learning about a person's culture. I had never learned much about Chinese culture, much less, what LoveBoat is, so it was refreshing to not only learn something new but understand another person's viewpoint, like how they feel and handle things differently from me.

I have a hard time rating this one. I think this book should have come with several warnings. I don't want to use an over-used word, but I found this book to be extremely triggering and I think some hard topics weren't handled with the care they should have been. It is definitely well written, but it was very hard for me to read through certain scenes and dialogues without knowing there'd be safety in the words at the end.
