Have to say, first time I read a book where at the back they explain to me something in a way that I was able to understand while I didn't understand back in math class.

But that aside... A nicely built world, really makes me wish I understood more of physics than I do, just for the heck of it, but still enjoyable regardless! Had it's hook on me since I read that first chapter and I was honestly curious to see where it was going with it all. I have to admit I'd have been disappointed if it ended any other way, but also that there's an itsy bitsy detail that left me a bit confused at the end, so it didn't really connected from one event to the next with me...? But hey! Maybe I just need to take a look at the Upper World myself? I think, although, that I would've been able to enjoy it more if all the numbers and equations didn't feel like a complete different language to me.

What would YOU do if you knew your future?

Physics in a YA time-travel narrative.

I have to admit, I probably should have read this on paper/e-book. I found the Audible version hard to concentrate on, both with time periods and names but also the physics got the better of me and my mind wandered a bit. I have enjoyed Andy Weir's titles with science caught up in the stories, but this felt more like a science lesson with time-travel ideas pushed into it.

Two time periods. In one, a young man is caught up in a gang incident where someone is shot. In the other, a teenage girl with no parents looks for answers.

I didn't click about a lot of the connections between the two periods for quite a while, probably because I missed details in the audiobook version. For me, this would have been easier to follow on paper, where I could have gone back and re-read sections.

Rhia seemed to catch on to the science remarkably quickly and easily. I was lost.

I don't think this was for me really, I persisted but didn't really enjoy it. I can see why many do, and I did feel the language of the characters was realistic and do hope it sparks an interest in the sciences.

I believe this is being adapted for the screen, where I suspect it will be much easier to follow.

With thanks to Nudge Books for providing a sample Audible copy.

Due to the new import rules considering the UK I had to quit my Book Box Club membership. I hate it, because they helped me to read out of my comfort zone, picked books I never would have found otherwise and sometimes gave me beautiful unexpected gems. So, now I just check the unboxings of the boxes and get the books myself. Firstly because that way I keep on reading out of my comfort zone, secondly to still do the buddy read with the girls.

This book sounded like my cup of tea. I used to be a maths geek, the only girl in a class filled with guys. I loved playing with numbers and finding the magic behind all those numbers. The maths and quantum mechanics in this book is quite cool and I love how time travel is more than just some trick, but really is based on scientific theories. I think it's a great way to get young people interested in science and the possibilities that can be found over there.

However, I really had issues connecting with the story and the characters. That has a little to do with the characters themselves. I have the feeling that they're never really showing us their true emotions, just like I wouldn't be able to tell much about them personality wise. I therefore had issues clicking with them and seeing them as my friends. I know that I say it more often, but for me the characters and feeling connected to them is more important than anything else in a book.

It also had a little to do with the world building though. I have the feeling that the author of the book has a very clear imagine in his head of this world, of all the scenes, of the way this world works. However, for me this world feels very foreign. I understand it's a true part of our world, but it's a part of our world I'm not familiar with and I don't feel like the author helps me to understand the world and the place our characters have in it.

It's however very well possible that I'm not the target audience of the book. I'm pretty sure that when this book finds the right readers some magic is gonna happen in our society and our future!

I just couldn't keep reading through all the misogyny. It feels like every time a woman is mentioned she's being sexualized. My specific breaking point was when the main character was being berated by his mother and began internally replaying an explicit sexual fantasy of his crush.

I loved the lightspeed concept wrapped around this book even if it was hard for me to grasp at times. Still fascinating. A story of love and loyalty that spans years.

YA book about time travel and taking ownership of ones life- even the hard bits.
I am not sure that the time travel was well developed but overall this was an enjoyable read

Great story & great execution! The dual POV’s were executed so well. I was nervous that the ending would flop, but it did not disappoint.
