This is one of those books where once I started reading, I could not stop. I loved all aspects of this book: the art, the women, and their stories. I want more!
This book featured a handful of women who dared to be themselves, doing what they felt driven to do, often during times and occupations that was strictly male dominated. The illustrations and stories is a tribute to brave women all over the world, seen with a modern perspective. I really loved the fully illustrated panels marking the end of each story, as a symbol of the life of each woman. These are the brave ones plowing the way for others. Many a story broke my heart, women not being appreciated for their hard work long after they were ten feet under. This might not be a history book, but to show how women dare to fight for what they feel is what they want to do, what is important to them is very inspiring. I’m sure books like these is a little contribution to making people braver and the world a little better.
An awesome collection of badass women in history with gorgeous illustrations. Too much focus on European and white women but a beautiful book besides that.
Why do I have the feeling I have read this one before? Quite enjoyed it, but cannot say it was very "new" to me...
Definitely a winner! I learned about so many amazing women. Reading it in graphic novel style made it even more enjoyable. Would love to read another one about other amazing women.
I loved the art and I loved (most) of the stories! There were quite a few of them that made me tear up with pride that these women are a part of history, only wishing that more people knew their stories
The artwork is truly stunning. And of course all of the women featured are groundbreaking and inspiring.
I had the joy of seeing Bagieu give a talk about this back in the fall, and it was immediately on my to-read list. And it was well worth it.
Each story was thought provoking, gave you just enough info to make you rush to the library or the internet in order to learn more, and the art was gorgeous. I finished reading this book back in January (i forgot to post my review on goodreads at the time) and two months later there are still stories that have stuck with me. Stories and women i still find myself thinking about.
This isn't a comprehensive review, but it is honest. If you have a single feminist bone in your body, please read this. You won't be sorry.

Cool book, interesting format, though I think I would have liked them more as short stories (more detail)
