Better than the last 3 or 4, but still sub-par to the stellar beginning.

I’m patiently waiting for Rusty & Sean or I would have bailed by now.

This was such an amazing book. It had lade me feel for Rusty and it showed how much she was just like her brothers and wanting to help. I was glad Zoe had a friend like Rusty to be there for her.

Joe Kelly is the last single Kelly brother and set on staying that way. But then he sees his sister Rusty's friend Zoe who's staying with her and he realizes what his brothers have been talking about. Zoe is in hiding--from a father who is a crime boss and an ex-boyfriend who was using her to get at that father. She no longer trusts men or her own instincts and she doesn't believe she's good enough for happiness, and Joe is determined to prove otherwise. But their love is put to the test when her enemies catch up with her.
I've always really enjoyed this series and even though I'm a little behind in the series, I had no problem getting back into it. I really enjoyed Joe and Zoe's story and watching them both come to realize that they can't live without each other. I'm also really looking forward to, hopefully, getting Sean and Rusty's story next (there seemed to be hints that it was next).

I really struggled to finish this, there was just so much repeating of the same stuff over and over and over again.
Zoe was so one dimensional and yet somehow it was insta love. All of the men in the story are almost as flat as characters - I'm a swearing caveman who needs to protect my pretty woman. There is a huge gap in the plot (how did Sebastian find her????) and Allie being shot was just left dangling. Throw in some weird telepathic junk and overall
I just wanted to throw the book against the wall.

This is the first Maya Banks book that I've read.  Maybe the rest of the series would make me care or provide some depth to the characters but stand-alone, I'd skip.  I'm baffled by how many people gave it good reviews.

Each KGI novel gets better and better. This one was awesome. Joe and Zoe have an instant attraction and the twists and turns of their plot as well as the plots of Rusty and Sean and all of the other Kelly brothers kept the pages turning. I love this family!! Maya has outdone herself once again. Cannot wait for the next installment.

I quickly worked my way through the KGI books several years ago. For some reason, I never got around to this one. I was hesitant to start this knowing that there was no end in sight for the series.
Having read this book, either I've moved on from this this type of book or the writing has gone downhill throughout the series.

I was immediately annoyed by the repetitiveness of the writing. We get it. Zoe came from a traumatic background. She was scared. She didn't deserve love, according to herself. The instalove between her and Joe stretched the imagination and wasn't believable. Being willing to die for someone or go to the end of the world for someone you've just met is eye roll worthy. The villain in the story was flat and his actions were inconsistent.
SpoilerFirst, he said that Zoe was a cold fish in bed and then he wanted to rape her and invite his friends to rape her. Really?

Lastly, the language in the book grated on my nerves. I get that Banks is trying to write "manly" men but not all of them swear every other word out of their mouth. But in actuality, it just made these men appear as cavemen incapable of using alternate language.

With this book, I'm happy to put Banks's books behind me and move on from her type of books.

Glad to finally have Joe's story, the last Kelly brother to fall. This one was definitely not as fast paced as the other books, much less suspense until the end. Zoe is hiding out, but we don't get very far into her backstory and I'm wondering why we don't have more on the outcome of her being on the run. Some inconsistencies, if Van couldn't detect issues with her identity, how did the others find her? What happened with Allie? Did they go after Zoe's father?
But kudos for giving us more from each of the existing characters in the KGI family. Not so much with the heart wrenching storyline of Rusty, she needs to get resolved soon! Not sure if we can wait patiently for her since it's been so long coming.

I've read every book in the KGI series multiple times. So when I started this one I had hoped it would be just as good as the others. Joe's story is one that I've been waiting for, but unfortunately, I was disappointed. All of the female protagonists in the series demonstrated themselves as women who were able to overcome adversity and become stronger because of it. Zoe, however, is the opposite. While I can understand the toll her experiences had on your self-esteem, mindset, and outlook, the constant self-disparaging thoughts and dialogue dampened my enthusiasm for the story. I really wanted to like Zoe, but halfway through the book I just kept thinking that if I was Joe I'd have given up.

On the bright side, the glimpse into the Rusty-Sean romance kept me reading. I cannot wait to see how that plays out!
