I read this for English in school I really enjoyed it and I think it is better than the movie.

One more Roald Dahl book I've never read! The whole poaching storyline does not exactly age well but I still enjoyed hearing from Danny and his adventures with his dad. The whole scene of them doping pheasants so they can sabotage another hunting party was probably my favorite part. Dahl truly had a crazy imagination to write all these books. They're so unique than other children's books I've read in the past.

After I told a friend all about the sneaky methods I was using to get my pet chicken to take her antibiotics, she told me I sounded like Danny in this book. Off I went to the library to see if Danny had better methods than me.

Sure enough, there are many similarities between my flock and Danny's pheasants - since I too use pre-soaked raisins to hide the meds. But I do wonder about the wisdom of drugging animals he plans to eat.

I know I loved Roald Dahl as a child but I don't remember much of the actual stories (I think I was too busy de-coding the text to absorb much context). This one doesn't have any of the magic, spells and potions that Dahl is famous for but it does have evil characters and promotes a simple life of contentment.

The most suspenseful Roald Dahl I've read! This book has a little taste of the BFG and quite a bit of overlap with Fantastic Mr. Fox, but no talking animals. Do all of Roald Dahl's stories have a strong theme of revenge? Wow.

I'll definitely have to start bringing along my children for all my illegal activities!

One Sentence Review: Known far and wide as the non-goofy Dahl novel, Danny was so much sweeter and lighter than I would have expected (and did a good job of erasing the made-for-tv movie I saw years ago out of my head).

Such a sweet and endearing read - even for adults! The joy that radiates from this book is simply magical and makes you feel like a kid again.
funny hopeful informative lighthearted

This one lives up to the nostalgia, although Danny's dad might not be the best role model, as he is an insane person who is obsessed with poaching.
