One of my favorites as a kid and delightful to revisit as an adult. I started a new job and have to commute now so I’m turning to audiobooks to make the time useful. This was so fun to listen to. Roald Dahl has a way with relating to children that few other authors can achieve. He really knows how children think and feel and it shows in all his books. This one is especially great because it makes me want to be a great dad one day.

Oh, I have such fond memories of this book from when I was younger. This is another one that my parents used to read out loud to me, and when I went on to reading independently I would always come back to this story.

I wanted the magic that Danny’s dad imbibed the world with, I wanted the dad who would teach me all about the natural world and who would take me on such wild and wonderful adventures. Even if that meant poaching some pheasants.

Dahl’s storytelling is so well done that it is no wonder the stories have endured over the years, if you can go back to a beloved story as an adult and enjoy it just as much as when you were a kid then there is something extremely magical about that.
