This was my favorite book when I was ten, but I didn't own a copy and had forgotten most of the story. What a complete gift to get to read it again afresh. And amazing to identify with the dad instead of Danny this time. It totally holds up.

Pretty sure it framed my parenting philosophy. I love this family and their community so much. Healthy joyful mischievous vibes. It is such goals.

My kid just finished it too and loved the story. Honourable rule breaking.  Enjoyed the BFG foreshadowing. Needed to talk with them about the G word and why we don't use it anymore, but that was a good talk to have. They're reading Boy right now and love it too.

Splendid wonderful dreamy Robin Hood type adventure.
I'd forgotten about the raisins! How could I have forgotten about the raisins?

Reminds me of my relationship with my dad, to a T. He’s quite a sparky parent. Had so much fun reading this with Russell.

Better written than I remembered. Without the core meanness which makes so many of Dahl’s other books awkward to read to kids nowadays.

I realized a couple days ago that there's only one children's book by Dahl that I somehow managed to miss when I was in third grade - this one - so I took a quick break from my not-finishing-books streak to read it.

What can I say? Roald Dahl was my favorite author for years for a reason. This was fun and wholesome, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Danny and his friendship with his father made me so ridiculously happy, and I think that this is one of those times when my feelings are best summed up with an emoji: :)

3,5 stars.

I won't be writing a full review for Danny The Champion Of The World... I've been slowly going through the books of one of my favorite childhood authors, Roald Dahl, rereading old favorites as well as some stories I missed when I was little. I did read Danny The Champion Of The World a couple times when I was little, and although it's not my favorite I remember still enjoying the story quite a lot. It's not as fantastical as some of his other stories, but I liked the relationship between father and son and the 'secret' and creative poaching ideas. It's definitely a fun story for kids to read.
