The Girl in the Spider's Web: Continuing Stieg Larsson's Dragon Tattoo Series
David Lagercrantz
Pretty good, considering it's a new author taking over a wildly successful series. Reasonably true to the characters. Takes a while to get going and not quite as edgy as the first three books, but a decent read, nevertheless, whether you are new to the books or an old hand.
Lagercrantz is not Stieg Larsson. I am guessing that the storyline and structure of the book were created by Larsson and the dialogue written by Lagercrantz. The story was a nice continuation of the Millennium series but was lacking the suspense of the other novels. Also, at times the dialogue felt contrived and unnatural. Disappointing.

Although it wasn't a bad read, it did feel like something was missing throughout the story. By the end I felt somewhat unfulfilled, I expected more from it. Although the world and characters were similar, they were really hollow copies of what came before. It's a shame too, as Lisbeth and Mikael are amazing characters we could use more of.
Very entertaining sequel to the series. Continues where the earlier trilogy left off, style is very similar. Recommended if you like the initial books.
I originally gave this 1 star and bailed out after 10%. The review I wrote initially was:
"I was hoping it would be awesome. I got about 10% in on my Kindle and was suffering with all the long setup, paragraphs of character thoughts, and lack of dialogue. I quit."
My long time friend and awesome reader friend Howard Morgan told me to give it another shot and push through. So I did. And he was right - it got a lot better once we got into the book and past the long setup. While not as good as the original ones, it ended very strong, tied a bunch of things together, and set things up for another sequel.
Given that I stayed up late one night getting through it, I give it a 4 now that I gave it a real shot.

I really enjoyed the Millennium trilogy. Although I thought at times it got a little long in the tooth and the plausibility started to run out of control they were interesting mysteries. After the passing of Stiegg Larson and hearing that David Lagercrantz would pick up where Stieg left off and write the fourth book in the "trilogy" I have to say I was apprehensive. For those that might worries that David Lagercrantz would change the tone or direction of the series I can say that you have nothing to worry about. There is very little in The Girl in the Spider's Web that distinguishes itself as written by anyone but Stieg Larson.
And that might be the biggest fault I have with the book. The Girl in the Spider's Web brings us back to both Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist a short time after the end of the trilogy. The two haven't been in contact since and you get to go along for a ride on an artificial intelligence case that the two come together again to solve (sort of). The biggest issue I had with The Girl in the Spider's Web was that this case has thrown any sense of reality out the window. There are things that Lagercrantz asks the reader to accept that are just insane. There were at least a half dozen instances when I visibly scoffed and muttered that the writing just felt lazy. I don't want to spoil anything, but nothing in this book feels set in reality. Lisbeth at this point has become a super hero, and Blomkvist might as well be Clark Kent at this point.
It's a shame too because I think the writing, the setting, and even the plot were really interesting. The problem is that the actions in which our leads take to resolve said areas of the plot are ridiculous. I enjoyed the read but could not get around how insane the story gets. It's a shame too because although Stieg showed signs of making these characters larger then life they had a bit more grounding. Now all the rules of real life have been thrown out the window and we are left with a book that's entertaining but has no staying power.

Očekujem i nastavak.
Obviously written by a different author...but still the characters I loved in the first three books. May not be where Larsson would have taken the story, but quite a good read. I hope they have contracted for at least a trilogy. I'm in...I think I liked it a bit more than Hornet's Nest.
