I read this book for the first time when I was in high school... Very touching story about life in the untamed territory in northern Canada. I read it again while in college... Great escape from my homework.

When Katherine Mary O'Fallon travels to Alberta, she is only hoping to get to know her uncle and to get some relief for her pleurisy. But when a handsome (and infuriating) Mountie shows up on her doorstep one evening, her life will never be the same. Short weeks later, she is Mrs. Mike Flannigan and is heading up to the wilderness to where her husband has been posted. Life on the frontier is full of hardships - and blessings - as Mrs. Mike learns what she's made of.
My mom always liked this book - I can remember the copy she had on one of our bookshelves - so I wanted to read the story. I didn't really know what to expect but I was quite delighted at the story. It was somewhat reminiscent of Call the Midwife as Katherine & Mike sought to care for those around them, despite hard and often heartbreaking circumstances. When heartbreak comes to the Flannigan home, Katherine has to really decide if that life is worth the cost, which led to such a beautiful and redemptive ending!

This is a great story about the Canadian frontier, love and growing up. I appreciate the story and it is an interesting read. It’s long and also very sad. If you like Anne of Green Gables this feels like Anne if she’d followed a Mounty up to the Northern Planes and built a life on the frontier.
I read Kathy’s story just after finishing These Is My Words, and I’ve repeatedly said that I preferred reading about the character Sarah Prine. Certainly a major part of my preference is that Sarah had natural strength, confidence, and self-reliance which I think is necessary in the Wild West. Kathy was young and the reader followed a little of her growth through trial, but she didn’t represent an ideal heroine to me. Perhaps if I wasn’t comparing Kathy to Sarah I might have enjoyed this book more
Lots of fun for an Alberta girl to read. Such a sweet and heartbreaking story that I couldn't put down.

I thought I would hate this book. I didn't. For a romantic chick flick it was dimensional and not overly simplistic. The characters were interesting and sympathetic. The story was fulfilling and engaging. The writers were very good, you couldn't predict the next chapter. Over all enjoyable, but forgettable book.
