This book was such a page-turner and it’s been a hot minute since I’ve sped through a book so fast. There were so many twists  that kept me on my feet, wondering and worrying about where the characters will end up.  And as for our protagonist, Jamie…you can practically feel the weight of all the years he’s lost by the time you turn the last page.

What I liked the most about this book was that it just seamlessly fits with the original Peter Pan story. Original Peter was already a menace to begin with, but this book really casts that in a whole new light.

This book is very dark and bloody which I don’t usually go for but the concept was too interesting to pass up. I’m honestly in shock over this book and it’s ending. I never knew what to expect and Christina Henry was not afraid of anything when writing this. But I am afraid of this story. It was bone-chilling at times.

The ending of this book is so powerful I had to re-read it several times. Wow.

This is the origin story of
Captain Hook
This POV that I never would see as a kid who grew up watching Peter Pan. Like wow. It all makes sense now. Christina Henry wrote this so well. The twists?!! *chefs kiss* hella dark

I have a weak spot for Peter Pan retelling and I’ve read multiple ones I like. Lost boy is one of the good ones and a close second only to the childthief by brom. I liked that this story was more a prequel to Disney’s Peter Pan instead of a full retelling inspired by the original book. It was different and in a way more accessible. Everyone has seen the Disney classic but most people didn’t read the book. What makes lost boy one of the best retellings out there?

Characters
I loved Jamie as a main character. He is sweet caring, but also morally grey. I would do anything to protect his boys even if that means killing others. I like that he is softhearted but still strong.

Worldbuilding
Neverland is Neverland, it’s magical ik all kind of different ways and I’m
Thankful Christina Henry updated the story. She took out some of the racist elements of the story and she found a way to still stay true to the world Disney put onto screens worldwide.

Story
The story is set before the Disney movie, like i said multiple times before, and has a lot of darker elements. I’ve loved the way this
Books has been written so much! I recommend this book to anyone!

I know my copy of Lost Boy has a “The Guardian” quote screaming at me that I won’t be able to look at Peter Pan in the same way anymore… But would it surprise someone if I already didn’t?

I liked and still like the story of Peter Pan, a boy who is so determined to never grow up and stays forever 11 years old. However, I cannot find the best words to describe how well I think Henry did in retelling the story from a total different point of view and giving the children Peter takes to his island their own character traits.
This really feels like a beginning of how the story could have, might have and perhaps has actually taken its turn between Peter and his very first Lost Boy.

I don’t even really have the words to describe this book except for “wow”. It was harsh and brutal and emotional and painful with such intricate development of Jamie and Peter’s relationship. It sometimes felt repetitive but not in a way that detracted from the story but rather drove the point home.

I didn’t really know what to expect from this book when I started but it had me hooked (hah) right away. This is definitely a book I will be thinking about for a while.

I adored this peter pan twisted story. Jamie was such a good well-developed character that I really had empathy for. There were quotes in this book that really stuck with me. However, I will say it was much more gruesome than I was expecting.
