My second book from Jackson and was really enjoyable and easy to read. I don’t always like young adult lit. but ever since I read Monday’s Not Coming, I’ve chosen the occasional YA novel lol. Something that’s been prevalent in both books I’ve read are the twist endings, and while it wasn’t as mind-bending as the one in MNC, it totally flipped the story on me. I also really liked the complexity of the characters (especially the other girls in the home) and how other issues could be tied into the main plot. Overall a great and quick read!! Looking forward to reading The Weight of Blood!!

Ik ben iets te verward om een goede review te geven. Ik haat het echt als je bijna 400 pagina's leest en ik weet niet of het aan mij ligt, maar je weet nog steeds niet wat er nou precies gebeurd is de avond van de dood van Alyssa want de 'smoking gun' is nooit vrijgegeven. 

Buiten dat om vond ik het wel een heel interessant boek om te lezen. Er wordt goed weergegeven hoe de opvoeding en het gedrag van ouders kan zorgen dat een kind dingen doet die niet horen. Het legal system in Amerika wordt ook goed weergegeven en het is absurd dat een kind zo gemakkelijk terecht kan staan voor iets waar ze niet genoeg onderzoek voor gedaan hebben. Helaas gebeurd dit in het echte leven ook. 

Ben het gewoon alleen niet helemaal eens over het verloop van het verhaal want ik jammer vind.

Loved this book right until the little bit, and then hated it! The „twist“ was so infuriating! Good righting and good plot, got me hooked right From the start, but the twist just felt cheap and not well thought out.

Wow what a rollercoaster! I love how complex all of the characters are, it really breaks you out of the mold thinking that a character is 100% guilty or innocent. I feel like it's really hard to get into the mindset (especially first person) of someone who has been so traumatized and abused, but she did an excellent job. You can really tell when there are holes in Mary's memory, and things that she doesn't fully understand/refuses to accept. I feel like it ended kind of abruptly, I would have liked more of a build-up before the crazy ending, but still a really good read.

Oh i’m so frustrated by this book. I think if this had been presented to me in a different way I would have enjoyed this book much more.  Instead of it being presented as the thriller/unreliable narrator, it was presented as a critique of society. To be fair, this is what other people had said in their reviews/recommendations so I don’t know if the authors intent was for this to happen or not. But it was frustrating to go the entire book thinking you’re getting one thing and then getting something entirely different. That’s the nature of a good plot twist but because of the hype surrounding this book and what I had been told about it, it just wound up not being my cup of tea. And I also think some valid critiquing of our justice system was done. I just think that the ending completely undid all of the work the rest of the book had done.

Tiffany Jackson is now an auto buy author for me. 4.5 stars. 

This book was incredible. I read it in 2 hour increments each day. I couldn’t put it down. 

Mary allegedly murdered a 3-month old baby named Alyssa Richardson when she was 9. She ends up going to “baby jail” and then a group home with other girls like her. 

That’s all I have to say. Read this book.
