This was my third book by Tiffany D. Jackson and I think it was amazing for the most part. I really like her writing style and the way her stories make me all emotional and angry at the same time. The topics in her books are SO important, and I also like her twists, since they manage to surprise me even when I'm expecting them. This time however, I'm a little bit disappointed by one of the twists. It’s great one plot wise, but I think it does take away from the important messages a bit. This is still a really, really good book.

This is a book I threw when I finished it. Literally threw it, it just evoked a very intense emotion from me.

This is my second Tiffany D. Jackson book and it didn't disappoint.
The writing draws you in, investing you in the characters and the plot line. I listened to it on audiobook and it definitely added to the atmosphere.

this is my second work and audiobook from jackson and i am still thoroughly impressed. jackson does not hold back in her stories and at times can be difficult to read. it is hard to say that i "enjoyed" this, but jackson clearly has a gift for storytelling. this is an unflinching and disturbing look at motherhood, the US justice system's treatment of black children/teens, and mental health. i was engrossed from beginning to end with only minor qualms. although i felt that the ending was a smidge rushed, i felt that the ending was incredibly well done and a testament to jackson's skill at writing.
