well, I have done it! this took me too long to finish but at least I can finally say I have read GOT! honestly, it's such a good book. apart for one issue that I had. the pacing was so well done, the unpredictability of what's going to happen in the story was done so well that there times where I simply had to keep reading to see what happens. it was such a joy to read this book. the only issue I had was the characters. there are SO MANY CHARACTERS!!! it got to a point where I couldn't remember who they were or what family they were supporting. it did at times make it confusing but as the story went on it wasn't that much of an issue. regardless I recommend to anyone to read this book it is quite fun.

A great summer read. Towards the end I was getting tired of it all, but the finish was pretty good. Some unexpected things happened and I'm eager to see where the characters end up.

Bran thought about it. 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?'
'That is the only time a man can be brave,' his father told him

The A Song of Ice and Fire series is so nostalgic to me, it just reminds me so much of being 16-18 and reading these massive books each summer holiday at home. I love the faux Tudor history in these books too, it's fantasy but it's almost not unrealistic.

However reading these books as an adult really kind of annoyed me. I think George R. R. Martins ability to write amazing characters and complicated storylines and just conjure up these whole worlds from NOTHING is just spectacular and he definitely deserves the 4 stars I've awarded the first book.

But i CANNOT STAND how he writes his female characters. Don't get me wrong, I love the diversity in personality he gives every single character, and that doesn't change for the women he writes, it's just very obvious he's a man writing a female part. It's like Stephen King too, both can write amazing women characters but THEY JUST HAVE TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THIS CHARACTER IS A WOMAN AND SHE HAS BREASTS AND A VAGINA. These characters could be 10 years old and it wouldn't surprise me to see a comment about nipples or see the word 'budding' somewhere. Guys come on. Every Daenerys (WHO IS 14!!!!) chapter in this book said something about her 'sex' and putting perfume between her 'lips' or even when she had a bath he commented about how that felt to her. Catelyn also mentions about how the last time she saw Lysa she was a 'high breasted girl'. I CAN 100% GUARENTEE YOU, WOMEN DO NOT THINK ABOUT HOW FIRM THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS BOOBS ARE WHEN THEY ARE SAYING GOODBYE. ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY'RE ABOUT 12.

I'm not saying you can't write NSFW topics in books, I think Martin is really good for making every scene in this book necessary and doesn't go into over detail about what's happening. Every event in this book, every scene, whether it be NSFW or otherwise, has been done purposefully and it reads so well, which is why I enjoy these books immensely. It's just so disappointing when male writers have to basically fetishise their own female characters. You would never see any random remarks about how Neds or Robbs or Tywin's private parts felt when they get in the bath IT'S JUST SO RANDOM and it just frustrates me.
