I’ve had a jpouch for 11 years and lived with an illeostomy for a short time before that, before THAT I lived from my teens into adulthood with debilitating ulcerative colitis. This book reminded me what I went through, it spoke honestly about what it’s like to recover from a colectomy. It explored the fears, the questions and the huge physical and psychological challenges. At the same time there’s a sweet  romance story AND friendship. The author has a lovely writing style. I’d love to see an adult book on this subject from her!

Many thanks to Hachette and NetGalley for a digital ARC in return for a review.

This was a very enjoyable educational read. I confess to not knowing much about ostomies or any of the medical apparatus that comes with that prior to reading, and I can't recall any books I've read in which one of the characters is living with a condition such as this. That alone goes to show how necessary this book is, and I hope lots of people give it a read. It wasn't perfect - some of the dialogue felt overly expository - but it was a nice easy read and should hopefully give those who read it some insight into what it's like dealing with an ostomy bag or pouch.

This book has exactly the rep I wanted when I was struggling to come to terms with my new bag.
Freya is a sassy fierce queen who even when struggling displays an incredible amount of confidence & bravery (Sorry I know. I just hate being called 'brave' as a chronically ill person too but it's true)

I loved the accurate information that wasn't preached at you but was informative none the less. I did hope that other bag types would be acknowledged as although me & Freya both have "reversible" ileosomies (I do still have a colon though so no J pouch for me just reconnecting), my bag doesn't have a separate flange. It's a one piece. Marshmallows are EVERYTHING THOUGH!

This book did make me feel real grateful that I never had to deal with an ileostomy in high school.

I STILL BELIEVE YOU NEED THIS BOOK!
