This is one of my favorite books. Since it is a collection of essays and other short pieces, I always find it easy to pull off the shelf and read a piece or two here or there. It is a book that I often turn to when in the mood to read something light, and I have probably read it through two or three times already. As the title says, this is a treasury for book lovers. It is a bit heavy on the stuff about book collecting, but it is still enjoyable.

A wonderful idea for a book that doesn't quite fulfill the promise. While some of the selections were interesting, I found too many of them rather dull.

While the first 221 pgs. were excellent, full of passionate essays, anecdotes, quotes, lists, and funny cartoons, the second half felt elitist and somewhat ostentatious. The change in subject and tone after such a lovely beginning, turns the passion of reading and the love of roaming around dusty bookshops for a bargain find, into a book about the collecting money game, where books are meant to impress others as opposed to being read and enjoyed.
