This was fine. I tried really hard to care about the characters but I only cared about the obeah.
I do not think I’ll be continuing this series. HOWEVER I did enjoy the final strife and plan on finishing that series.

It started a little slow but I really liked it after the first 100 pages!

I LOVED Faebound by Saara El-Arifi!! This is genuinely my new favourite book from now on. I was so hooked from the very start. I love high fantasy, I love elves and fairies, I love queer representation, I love enemies to lovers—and this book has all that and more.

I don’t feel like I can talk about the plot without spoiling the story, so just go read this book, I promise you won’t regret it.

The characters in Faebound are so loveable and real. I could feel their pain and joy. My favourite character has to be Furi, but I also love Pila so much. Yeeran and Lettle had such a believable sibling relationship—the way they always had each other’s backs even though they didn’t usually see eye to eye.

There was a lot of amazing queer, trans and disabled representation in this book which is always so good to see. Every character was unique and fully formed.

The romance in this book too was something else

How fun to read 2 five star books by the same author super close together but they’re so different in what makes them so great!! Obviously some similarities, especially normalization of genderqueer identities in society plus two women who are so stinking mean to each other but then they kiss. I loved the world drawing on well known classes of elves and fae but creating a structured magic system within that that was meaty but simple to understand. I will say the Ending Fire trilogy had me gasping at every reveal and these ones for the most part felt glaringly obvious to me, but that didn’t detract from the experience for me. I love sisters. The romances in this felt more central to me than in ending fire and I thought it was a perfect balance. Also maybe my favorite way to have a glossary at the end of the book - I always want to read but get bored sometimes but the character notes in the glossary were so fun.

The way the world is set up is wonderful! And who doesn’t love a book with a map, I mean come on. The characters are great, definitely have a favorite! And Pila I wish I could see fan art of her!
