"Death does not scare me. The end of life does."
Our main character is Aaslo a Forester. Foresters don't leave the forest for anything. That is.... unless your best friend happens to be the only one in the world able to save it from complete and total destruction. He is your brother, the only one your trust more than life itself. You would do anything for this brother including take up the sword (or axe) to fight alongside him.
The Fate of the Fallen was a surprising read. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started out and I had been in quite the reading slump. This was my first 5 star of the year and I am really glad my husband suggested it. This is everything you'd think about when you think about a fantasy. The world building is wonderful and the storyline kept getting better as it went on.
Characters included, a forester, prophet, sorcery, fae, gods, thief's and dragons. It was everything I hoped and more and there were even some surprise twists along the way.A lot of people pit this as a Frodo and Samwise story as told more from the side of Sam. I could totally see that, as our main character is a forester and the hero isn't the hero we thought we needed. Now, don't go getting it into your head that this is exactly a Lord of the Rings story because it isn't. It is its own thing and it turned out to be pretty epic.
Was the book absolutely perfect? No. But I think as Kade continues to write the story will become even more cohesive and flow together. I don't think I was ever confused in the story. The ending was a bit abrupt but that's due to another sequel.
The Fate of the Fallen is a high fantasy with some very interesting world building. It has the chosen one trope but with a major twist. I won't say what that twist is but its awesome. I'm very excited to see what happens in the sequel of this book. I will be continuing this story as it was just so brilliant. And I am now a complete fan of Kel Kade's writing. I definitely recommend this one for those who love twisted tropes and high fantasy!

I appreciated the different concept of the hero dying before the prophecy can be carried out, but this book was such a slow read for me. I think partially because the author tried to set up a religion with gods similar to the Greek gods, but I didn't know who any of the made up gods were due to insufficient introductions. The last 40ish percent was much faster paced, so I might consider reading the next in the series.

I find this book so comforting. It’s full of detail and great world building but something about it is just so simple (I saw a review calling this ‘satire fantasy’ and think that’s a perfect way to describe this). I loved the meddlesome gods, the unique take on the ‘chosen one’ trope, and the humor/banter was definitely my cup of tea.

I really enjoyed the book, and eagerly anticipate the next book.
I realize the author will keep him responding to a phantom voice throughout, despite realizing how awkward it is.
