Terrible.

I had a good time with this overall! I enjoyed trying to find the parallels to Lord of the Rings and other classic fantasy books throughout the story. Aaslo, who seems to be a mix of Samwise Gamgee and an Ent, is a very sympathetic main character. I appreciated how he tries to do his best to save the world when no one else seems willing or able to do so. The side characters were entertaining as well. I particularly enjoyed the antics of Dolt, the horse.

The world building was mildly confusing at times with a variety of gods meddling in human affairs, different worlds, and different types of magic. I did also find the pacing to be a bit uneven. I was very invested at the beginning of the story and then just lost steam towards the end. Overall, I did enjoy it, but I'm not entirely sure about continuing the series.

Can't wait to read the next one.

I went back and finished it. My opinions are the same. At parts it dragged and dragged. Then, when it picked up it was so fast I couldn’t understand how we got there or what was going on. A disappointment.

The idea for this is a good one. It's basically a spoof on the "Chosen One" trope common to the fantasy genre. Sadly, for me, the execution lacked charm and the attempts at humor were middling, at best. I can't help but think that the story would have been more fun with the actual Chosen One in the starring role.

DID NOT FINISH

Sorry, but I can't. -_- This book looked incredibly promising. The prologue hinted at a good story. The premise is interesting. I always love twists to the Chosen One trope. But the writing is just... not good, and at least through the first 20% the plot sticks way too close to the trope it's trying to subvert. Maybe it gets better further in, but I don't have the patience to find out.

DNF (audiobook) the book would have been good if it were only Azlo's story. The switch to the gods was clunky and didn't add to the story
