A bit slow for my taste and the ending didn't feel like an ending, in a way that was a little disappointing. But it's a lovely tale with an engaging main character, and a fascinating look at the experience of living in a time of war. It's a book that feels quite sorrowful in a way but also surprisingly sweet.

Thought it was a well written story of resilience and humanity set against the sombre backdrop of war; Ukraine, divided following the annexation of Crimea. Ft apiary magic. Life resists and persists but regional / town-to-town disparities are shocking. I knew very little about the Grey Zone, where the first half of this book is set. Illustrates how every day life (routines, philosophies and trivialities etc) is shaped in a conflict zone and protagonist is endeared upon us from get go. Given current events, would recommend this as an important read for anyone looking to better their understanding of the human experience of war in Ukraine.

if i had a nickel for every book i’ve read about a beekeeper fleeing a war torn area i’d have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice
anyway this was the better of two and i really enjoyed it and also learnt a lot
i also appreciated the fact that the bees themselves were quite prominent and all the descriptions of taking care of them
