The first book in a series is all about world building and laying the groundwork for the series. I liked how the magical world was revealed piece by piece to the reader and the main characters. The touches of history, myth, legend and historical figures was also fun. Slow start for sure, but little action scenes carried me through. I got to the end and I was left wanting more!
