Solid fantasy adventure beginning to a series for teens. Fast paced with a strong fusion of modern teen protagonists (twins) and mythology.
Disappointing. I have a particular problem with the mishmash of deities as "Elders," which include The Morrigan (Celtic), Bastet (ancient Egyptian), Hekate (classical Greek) etc.

I really enjoying The Alchemyst. The adventure plot keeps me hooked. Mr Scott is masterpiece at weaving his story. The retelling of Egyptian gods is wonderful read. The characters are also loveable. This book is meant to YA audience who craves for adventure plot.

I wasn’t a huge fan of this book. The character development was flat, and the characters themselves were pretty annoying for most of the book. There were so many moments that I was very frustrated with the characters’ choices, their random changes of personality, their lack of action, and their speech. There were parts of the plot that were tense and adventurous which helped move the story along a bit. Some of the intense battle moments were a bit violent for middle grade, but I could see middle grade enjoying the book. The basic idea for the story is interesting and could have been really cool, especially with adding in all of the historical and mythological elements, but the author really missed the mark.

From what I remember, it had a decent plot and just okay characters. The explanation for how magic worked, such as awakening and the ways it was used, as well as the creatures, were more interesting and is what kept me reading.
But, aside from that, the characters just didn't click with me. Maybe I'll continue the series if I know how they grow and develop.

Not a bad book but most def would’ve been my fav of all time if I read when I was 10.
