For what it is I found it enjoyable and entertaining, and I'll definitely give the second book a chance. Was I truly drawn in and impressed by the story by the first book, not really but I don't find the story horrible either. To me it is middle in the road with the promise of potential.
Do I agree/partially agree with some of the criticism others have written in their reviews giving this book a lot less stars than I have. Yes. But I personally choose to rate this as how I rate middlegrade books. Meaning I rate them after how enjoyable I find them and not necesseraily always with too much criticism. Basically I'm a lot more lenient on middlegrade books unless there is something really standing out in a horrible way. It's brilliant when they are deep and contain a lot of important topics, but it also great to have books you sometimes can enjoy for the story and just the story.
If I were to rate this as a young adult book I would say there is better books out there as this to me read more middlegrade/older middlegrade than young adult to me personally. Me as a kid would probably have devoured this series.

Not bad! Got it from a little free library and looking forward to returning it so a neighborhood kiddo can enjoy. Always love seeing how a graphic novel will show use of magic- very fun!

Read for Emma's middle school parent/student book club. Didn't love the narrator. Book was interesting. Might have to read the next one.

An interesting premise for a story but the writing and characters just weren't up to par.

Let me make this short and simple :-) Great book, awesome characters (kinda wanted to slap the teens though). One of my favourites but a romantic edge would have made it a lot better. My advice: read the series

Hmm, I think this story had a good idea. I also think the writing was decent. But I was just so bored by it, I couldn't bring myself to finish it. I had thought (more than once) that I should just stop listening to it, but kept on until I asked myself if I really cared what happened to any of these characters or the story and the answer was a resounding "NO" so I let myself off the hook. Phew. Too many books and too little time before I die to read stuff I can't bring myself to care about. :-)

It's been a while since I've read this book, but honestly, holds up really well!! I loved the audiobook narrator and the characters and world building are so interesting. Scatty and John Dee are some of my favourites:)

Plot or Character Driven: Plot

This book wasn't too bad, and it was an enjoyable read. I really liked how the author included gods and goddesses from other cultures and mythology, and added a better fulfillment for me. The idea is a little overused, but not as predictable on certain details. I think this is worth reading the rest of the series, and it made me unwind a little bit too. Overall, a really good read with a few
minor dislikes, and I recommend it for everyone.

I would have loved an entire book about the life and struggles of Nick Fleming struggling to come to terms with modern technology and arguing with the small automatic voiced travel guide trapped in the automobile.
