Before reading this, i didn't know the history of Flamel and thought that this would be a spin off from Harry Potter. This book is NOT a spin off or a history of a character from Harry Potter. The book is about a completely different world.
I didn't enjoy this book. The Author took way too much time to explain the story to the readers and I felt as if it dragged. I felt as if I was getting frustrated and annoyed while reading the book due to poorly crafted story telling.

First time trying a graphic novel! It was a fun experiment. I enjoy the novel version better, but having already read it it was fun to see it in pictures

#bookclub definitely hovering between 2 and 3 stars. Might be that I was just not the target audience so parts of it felt quite cringy and painful to read. Kudos to the premise. I just disliked the shallowness and name droppings it went throughout the book.

My boys and I loved this series

I really liked the concept, and occasionally the writing was really good. But mostly, the story was too far-fetched. It just clashed too much with reality. Some books can pull that off: this one did not. I did not like how Scott tried to force the modern world into this book. I see that it is supposed to contrast with the magic and alchemy, but it was just overwhelming. The characters were not that great overall, and the ones that could have been were left behind by the story.

I wanted to like it, but it just did not click with me.

I was rereading it as an adult after enjoying the series when I was younger, and I quickly found that I'd outgrown this series (and potentially the genre).
