It's been a while since I've read this series, but I remember really enjoying it as a teenager - I reread it a couple times. I even enjoyed it more than Nix's Keys to the Kingdom series. In Seventh Tower, I think he has a better concept of the world he's creating.

The Seventh Tower Series
Book 1 – The Fall
“Tal has lived his whole life in darkness. He has never left his home, a mysterious castle of seven towers. He does not see the threat that will tear apart his family and his world.
But Tal cannot stay safe forever. When danger strikes, he must desperately climb the Red Tower to steal a Sunstone. He reaches the top...
...and then he falls into a strange and unknown world of warriors, ice ships, and hidden magic. There Tal makes an enemy who will save his life and holds the key to his future.”
This was a very quick and enjoyable read, I’m enjoying the Icecarls and monsters too!
4 stars
Book 2 – Castle
“In a world of ice and fury where only the Castle radiates light, Tal, a Chosen who has been banished from the Castle, and Milla, an Icecarl warrior on a quest to bring a sunstone to her people, band together to find what they seek.”
Straight back into the story where we left off and it was just as good. It kept a great pace all the way through and I have to admit Uncle Ebbitt is fast becoming my very favourite character!”
4 stars
Book 3 – Aenir
“The dream world Aenir is not a safe place. One wrong step can lead to danger, entrapment...or death. Tal and Milla must fight their way through this shifting landscape. They are searching for the Codex, a magical object that will decide the fate of their worlds. Many creatures stand in their way--from the cloud-flesh Storm Shepherds to a swarm of venomous Waspwyrms to a horrifying figure named Hazror. Tal and Milla cannot leave Aenir without the Codex. But finding it might endanger them more than they've ever dreamed...”

I really enjoyed this one – super fast paced, new characters and so much action. The additions are welcomed as the plot thickens!
Book 4 – Above the Veil
“The dream world Aenir is not a safe place. One wrong step can lead to danger, entrapment...or death. Tal and Milla must fight their way through this shifting landscape. They are searching for the Codex, a magical object that will decide the fate of their worlds. Many creatures stand in their way--from the cloud-flesh Storm Shepherds to a swarm of venomous Waspwyrms to a horrifying figure named Hazror. Tal and Milla cannot leave Aenir without the Codex. But finding it might endanger them more than they've ever dreamed...”
This book comes in hot, the thickening of the plot from the last book continues and the action is fantastic.

Book 5 – Into Battle
“The Dark World is in danger, for the Veil is vulnerable. War is soon to come. On one side are Tal and the Underfolk rebels, struggling valiantly for freedom. On another side are Milla and the Icecarls, preparing to assualt the Castle in order to preserve their world. And on a third side lies the most sinister force of all--a force of evil that has only now chosen to reveal itself--a force of such power that it could unleash the ultimate destruction.2
This book is so intense! The pace continues to be rapid, Tal and Milla are separated during this book but their stories run parallel. This book felt more like a stepping stone to the next in the series, I’m not saying that as a bad thing it’s a development book.

Book 6 – The Violet Keystone
“Tal and Milla are only one step away from death. Evil is only one step away from triumph. An old war is made new again. The ultimate power is up for grabs.
As shadows rage, ancient spells return, illusion reigns and corruption threatens. The search for hope is the bravest quest.
The Seventh Tower is the key to it all.”
This was really good, really intense and a great ending to the series.
