I like when an author wrote about hard topics from past trauma, struggling, and everything in between but also shows growth and healing. That last line of the book really got to me. I’m hoping there is a second book so I can find out what happens next.

The story was well written but slang was so relatable. I really liked how it was like everyday talk. Especially when I saw the word “hella”. That is such a Cali thing and that made me smile so much.

Let’s get into it

Winter is a 29-year-old guidance counselor at a school where has a passion for helping kids. After having her ex, Luke, leave her when she finds out she is pregnant. She’s pretty much over men. Unfortunately, she had a miscarriage as well.

Down on her luck and wants nothing to do with relationships or love. She runs into Legend, the rapper.

We learn that sometimes people come into our life when we least expect it. With both of them adding value, support, love, and hope to each other's lives from past damages. Things so to look up for them both.

But not everything is all sunshine and rainbows. This is an incredible ride to read and I truly enjoyed it.

Definitely 3.5! New to reading from this author. Took a little to get into the book but it had a nice storyline! Definitely will read more!

This is not typically a book I would have picked out from the shelf. Before you go into in make sure you look at trigger warnings, a few are mental health, rape, suicide, assault, just to name a couple. This book is heavy, but with a good story line. I'm glad I decided to join the ARC the author put up in a book group on FB. It was a little bit hard to get into at first, but once it gets going, it's deff going. A little bit of smut but it doesn't take away from the story and actually plays into the story really well.

I was sent an ARC copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I almost DNF-ed this book a few times. The amount of stereotyping was pretty gross and the endless amount of trauma just seems really unnecessary. Writing trauma and healing is so important but this was just too much. Winter and Legend were a really great couple but so much kept getting in the way of their happiness. The story progressed pretty quickly, to accommodate constantly uncovering more trauma, which seemed pretty out of character for how Winter was written. Though, how she handled things being a THERAPIST was pretty unrealistic too. I’m also not sure why the author called it “spicy” and then made it almost impossible for there to be any spice at all. I was really expecting the book to end with Winter finding out she is pregnant, because I’m pretty sure they didn’t use protection in Chicago, but the plot twist ending we got instead surprised me.

The author said she is working on a Part 2 and as of right now I’m not sure if I’ll read it. The ending here made me mad, and I want to see it resolved, but I’m not sure if I want to risk more trauma being uncovered. This couple deserves a happy ending without any drugs, exes, or toxic friends and habits.
