SO MUCH POTENTIAL

And it pretty much sucked.

There was a very brief background of the main characters: mother missing, father a well known powerful man who is mad and abusive, and main character really really really cares for her sister... thats basically it. Readers don't really get to understand or become attached or either of the sisters there just isn't enough story/substance there. The world of Caraval could have been so much more but the author really failed in the world building area. The story was quite random, the tasks, the riddles, the scenery, the characters all of it. And all for it at the end to be performs of Legend...it just didn't make sense.

The love interest too was so random honestly??? She decides she loves this guy after barely being with him for a week????? And the sister explaining everything at the end was supposed to be a way to wrap everything up but it made no sense to me honestly. The world of Caraval was not explained in enough detail that you could ignore all the confusing events that had happened. Some of it was just cringey too.

I won't be reading the rest of the series.

No plot, it was not good nor bad. Simply nothing happened but she got away from her father ? How can someone fall in love after 4 days. I think this book was the youngest in terms of writing i have read

Completely magical, the best way to start with fantasy books

Ok so I didn't give it five stars just because I'm a very rigorous person. But it is definitely a book that completely captivated me.

Yes, it's true that Scarlett's character can sometimes come off as annoying and naive when it comes to how worried she should be about her sister, Tella. But I actually think that gives a special touch to her character. Not all protagonists should be nice people.

Overall, I think this is a perfect book to start reading fantasy, I say this from personal experience since it was mine. It is very easy to read, a world which can be understood without the need to be an "expert" in the fantasy genre and unexpected twists that will blow your mind.

This is an imaginative story filled with magic and tame romance. Lots of twists and turns to keep you on your toes. I love how the author uses colors to describe emotions.
