THE K TEAM by David Rosenfelt is the first book in a new mystery series. It is also my first book by this author. Several characters from his Andy Carpenter series are the main characters with Andy becoming a minor character in this novel. Former Detective Laurie Carpenter, former Detective Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner Simon Garfunkel, and Marcus Clark are working as private detectives. In their first case, Judge Henry Henderson hires them via Andy to find out who is attempting to blackmail him. While no specifics for what they want him to do have been detailed, they have sent incriminating documents.

From a characterization standpoint, Corey is the most compelling and has the most depth in this novel. The characters acted in a plausible manner. The plot was suspenseful, complex and full of twists and turns. The prose was engaging and well-paced. My frustration was that the K Team did not always stay on the legal side of things to get their answers. How this will play out in future books remains to be seen.

Overall, this was entertaining and a good start to a new series and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Thanks to St. Martin’s Press – Minotaur Books and David Rosenfelt for an ARC of this novel via NetGalley and the opportunity to provide an honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.

I needed a book for my drive to Baltimore and this is what I came up with. I liked it, it is about a retired cop, well two retired cops and Marcus that become an investigation team. The four member is Simon the retired K9 cop, making it K team. Simon is definitely a part of the book but not as big of a part as I thought he would be. I also enjoy that the book is set in NJ, he was part of the Patterson PD. I will say that I did not see the end coming but I really wasn't trying to figure it out I was enjoying the read.

This is the 2nd book I've read by this author... The first was his non-fiction title about his gazillion rescue dogs! There were a few slow patches for me, but overall it was a solid mystery.

I like David Rosenfelt's books but this one seemed a bit slow and confused.

I enjoyed this twisty tale staring Andy Carpenter's wife and friends. But that is also how the 4 instead of 5 stars cones into play. In the end it seemed more of a Carpenter mystery than something new. I will read more because it turned out better than many sit com spinoffs and I really like these characters.

When I picked up this book I’d no idea what to expect. I haven’t read the Andy Carpenter mysteries that this is spun off from. That being said I really enjoyed this story. It took me a bit to warm up to Corey Douglas mostly because of his inner monologue about his girlfriend. But I pushed through and really enjoyed solving the mystery with the K Team. This was a convoluted case filled with red herrings galore and tricky bad guys. I really had to work hard to figure it out. By the end I was entranced and look forward to the next installment.

A quick, easy listen for when you don't want your brain to have to work too hard.

Was disappointed at the relatively lack of dog content, though. :(

Got a lot of progress on my sweater done while listening.

Excellent read. Not the exact same as the Andy Carpenter series but always exciting and easy to follow/understand. I hope this is the beginning of another exciting series of well written books.
