this had a slow start, but the enemies to lover development with double POV is so chefs kiss. The character's motivations and feelings are believable, but there are some plot holes. It could also just be me, but the magic system was a bit confusing because it seemed like things were possible for the convenience of the story. Overall, still had a fun time reading this.

Very clearly a ReyLo FanFic but still a banger.

2/5

DNF more than 50% of the way through.

Honestly, this book had so much potential in the first half. There was a lot happening between the two main characters while they embarked on their personal journeys, meanwhile, contending with the world around them. I enjoyed the plot line, I truly did. I really liked the magical system, the world building was actually present. The male main character was really something, even if he did give me Kylo vibes at times.

But, the FMC was good until she wasn’t. At 20 years old, she’s a hardened survivor with world knowledge that’s helped her all these years. Immediately halfway through the book, she reverts into this immature and whiny teenager that’s throwing temper tantrums in every single chapter. She was put into a position she didn’t like (uhm, wasn’t the entirety of her life the first half the book???) and she was set to be disgruntled at every turn.

It made the strong and determined woman she carried herself to be into a child. I suppose even with it being YA, — what 20 year old throws temper tantrums at every turn?

Not worth continuing.

I absolutely fell in love with The Hurricane Wars and would say it’s a must read for romantasy lovers.
Starting right in the middle of an ongoing war with magical stormships and lots of secrets to uncover!
Both protagonists had challenging upbringings on opposite sides of the war meaning they often come to head to head due to their own stubbornness- but this only fuels their passion as enemies turn into lovers in an unexpected circumstance neither of them could have predicted!

As the last Lightweaver on the continent, Talasyn has learned to keep her powers a secret. But when she reveals her powers to her enemy, the prince of the Shadowforged, Alaric Ossinast, they are both forced into a political engagement to hopefully save their world.

I will start by saying how different the book is in the beginning to the ending. I was truly taken on an adventure through political alliances, conflicted feelings, and learning more about Talasyn and Alaric through their point of views.

There is a lot of world building. The author, Thea Guanzon, takes great care in providing information throughout the entire story. While world building as intense as this confuses me at times, I would not be doing a good job in letting readers know that if you are someone who enjoys that level of storytelling and requires information about everything this world has to offer, then this book is perfect for you.

What I have found between Talasyn and Alaric is a lot of difficult feelings. Because they both come from opposing sides of the war, their conversations are harsh, snarky, but also a little bit of curiosity. They both carry trauma the war has put on them and oftentimes can’t agree on anything because of their opposing views. However, readers will slowly start to see these two unravel bit by bit and expose their own insecurities that could eventually lead to an understanding.

“The Hurricane Wars” is a powerful, politically motivated book that challenges Talasyn and Alaric constantly. The relationship they start to build is not easy, and it shouldn’t be. If you are a reader who is interested in the long haul of possibly an epic romance, then I would recommend this book immensely.
