Booktok has done it! This book was goooood. What a freaking emotional rollercoaster. I was 7 chapters in and already felt so broken. The pain, the passion, the anguish 🔥 It kept me guessing, kept me wanting more. I didn't want to put it down. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. With my mouth open at that, because the spice?! Yep, it was spicyyyyy. Dante was 🔥🔥🔥

⚠️ TW: talk of miscarriage, depression, and violence.

This book! So I've been in this whole mafia kick for a couple months now. Still, I kind of fell off the wagon this month because I was letting everything decide which books I pick up, and none of them were mafia-related, or so I thought. I was excited about this book when I picked it up because it was the brother's best friend/military romance, and I've surprisingly never read a military romance, so I was so curious about this book! The book I got was excellent, but I don't think I would qualify it as a military romance. So, at the beginning of the book, Dante was in the military and home on leave when he and Delilah hooked up. But to be fair, Dante was more of a family friend, not just her big brother's friend. He hung out with everyone in the family. He was their neighbor. Whenever he was on leave, he talked the most to Lilah because they wrote to each other the most. So this book was kind of friends to lovers too. But right after they hooked up, he left again for another leave. I think he was only home for a couple of weeks before heading out. While he was gone, she went away to college, and that's when the book really starts going because there are a lot of things that happen to this girl while she's in school. As a way for her to heal, she ends up taking a nursing job in Puerto Rico, where she ends up having to live down the hall from Dante. The two finally talk about what happened between the two four years prior. He wasn't in the military anymore and hadn't been for quite a while. This is how the book then turns down the mafia route, and I loved it! I loved the little connections that happened, not just between these two main characters but also between him being linked to the mafia. There's honestly just so much history between these two, and so much comes to light while they live down the hall from one another. I really loved this story and the journey we went on. But the book lost points for me when her fixation on herself was not good enough, or she was jealous of her twin sister. She reached the point where she wanted to give up everything for her sister so she could be happy with Dante instead of just talking to him about what he wanted. Ultimately we do get a happy ending between the two, and I loved how their story ends. This also books two in a series, and I really want to go back and read the first book and then the third one because it was a really good book. I can't wait to see this series play out.

It was a good book but the plot was just a bit inconsistent.

We don't really get to know the other brothers or the main brother who's supposed to be best friends with the MMC. Also, I felt like there were just so many little plot twists it just got very confusing and a bit hard to follow.

That being said, I really loved how the book brought up and delt with mental health issues. I don't see that very often in the books I read and I felt like it was a good representation of real life worries and struggles.

Ultimately, I enjoyed this book it's just a bit different from what I typically read!
