Wow this book challenged me in so many ways, from the relationship of church to salvation to the meaning of evangelism and mission. I was also particularly struck by the Massai tribe and the beautifully unique ways they interpreted the gospel through their cultural symbols and language. The image of God as a lion took on a new meaning in the imagination of an East African tribesman and my own thought world will be forever grateful for that.

I am by no means a Christian, but this was a great read. It's a vision of a Christianity I can understand, and one of missionary work that I find a positive force, not despicable. In all honestly I wish it was longer and went into far more detail about the Masai, but sadly this is more theology for westerners than cultural study or history. It's honestly given me a lot to add to my understanding of how to spread socialism and what I believe in, and was a fairly quick read.

An excellent case study on evangelism to the Masai tribe. Each chapter explains the struggles he faced in a narrative way, and then expands on the issues generally.
Very thought provoking. Some of his issues as a Catholic didn't apply to me, but his conclusions about the restrictions only highlighted his more unorthodox challenges.
He gets a bit waylaid towards the end I think, but as a book about the what and how of spreading the gospel it was great.
