Encore un livre pour l'école. C'est assez bien écrit. L'histoire est une peu intéressante au début, mais la succession de personnages et d'actions sans queues ni têtes fait vite décrocher.

okay, at first i was going to give this 3.5 stars, but after reflecting on the book more, it really does deserve 4 stars. just because i thought the ending was a little meh, isn’t that also a reflection of life itself? something that i might understand more as i age???

first, love a caribbean novel. such a beautiful picture of a life, despite, or perhaps because of, the suffering included in it - life and it’s ups and downs baby amirite!!! the horse of sorrow line that was threaded throughout wow ok!! such lovely metaphors

the goods of the earth remain the earth’s, and man does not own even the skin he’s wrapped in. all he owns are the feelings of his heart.

im glad she didn’t forgive or even pretend to accept elie at the end…

I had to read this for my English class but I genuinely enjoyed this book. Taking a look at what Telumees life was like growing up and all the struggles she went was a bit of a bittersweet story. Her relationship with her grandmother was beautiful but the other harsh things she went through were a bit gut wrenching. I laughed, I was shocked, I got angry, etc. Loved it!!
