Another enjoyable Agatha Christie which raced towards the end with a good number of twists.
If you've read any Agatha Christie books, you'll know that most of the time, everyone in the cast could be the murderer. Well, this is even truer in this book. Literally anyone would fit the bill, and I would have bought it wholeheartedly upon being offered the explanation.
However, the author does two interesting things. The first half of the book gives voice to each of the main characters, allowing us to get their motivations and personalities. Then, all these different points of view converge for the crime. It is very well done but does make it a little harder to connect with the story. The other thing is how manipulative Christie is. She totally fooled me on a point. Never saw it coming! My hat to her :O)

Was completely taken by surprise both by the solution and the identity/motives of another character. Really enjoyed this.
4.5 ! Wasn’t as fun as some of her other books I’ve read + colonel race is kinda boring (maybe bc I’m comparing him to poirot lmao) but damn this is really the one where I was SURE I knew who the murderer was and that I finally FINALLY figured miss agatha christie out…but once again she caught me completely off guard and called me a Stupid Fucking Bitch…I can’t believe I just :”) completely dismissed the most important details like a mf IDIOT
I'd call this one a classic Christie. The solution is surprising and not surprising and involves elements that are somewhat but not overly farfetched. There are, as often happens in Christie mysteries, secret/double identities, and the murder is solved by an amateur despite the presence of recurring character Colonel Race, formerly of the MI5. The only racist bit I spotted was related to a Mexican character who appears briefly, and it was pretty mild for pre-1950s Christie. There are two romances (Christie sure loves her romances), which weren't my favorite but also weren't as gross as some of her "I want you to be my caveman" romances. So yeah, overall it was an enjoyable read and one of those I think anyone could pick up to get a good sense of Christie's style.

The mystery was fine, although the solution at the end did not seem very plausible to me.
I did enjoy words like "gay" or "queer" being thrown around to describe characters. Of course it meant something very different back then.
There was a bit of casual racism and quite a bit of sexism baked in the story. Women are mostly there to look pretty and at best help a man in their life.I'm sorry, but the resolution is that by far the most competent woman in the story had a complete character change by being seduced by some guy in a single conversation??
