Por un momento temí que este fuera el primer libro de Agatha Christie en decepcionarme. El principio no fue muy bueno, y tuvo momentos que no sé para que estaban ahí, pero, de pronto y de golpe, ahí por la página cien, subió y subió con sus intrigas, tuvo un muy buen golpe y comenzó a dirigirse de forma inesperada a uno de esos grandes momentos que estos libros te hacen vivir, cuándo casí descubres quién es el culpable, pero en realidad no lo es, pero, ¿Y si... sí lo es?
Mi gusto es:
—El Coronel Race diciendo que esa mujer no tiene necesidad de asesinar, porque es más lista que la otra persona, así que suficiente tiene con sobrepasarlo en inteligencia.
—La madre de Sandra aclarando que su hija bien que puede asesinar, porque tiene algo muy fuerte en ella que no la detendría si esta decidida, pero que igual la van a salvar porque no merece morir.
—Iris diciendo que la belleza de Rosemary era atemorizante.
—El uso de lo sobrenatural en la historia, no es que tenga mucha importancia o se mencione demasiado, pero sirve como una pista más. Una de esas que Christie pone ahí para que te confundas.
—El significado de Rosemary.
—Que todo sucediería el Día de los Difuntos.
—Que Iris dijera que podía donar todo su dinero, excepto una parte, que usaría por si se quería separar y la necesitaba para darle una patada al esposo. Así se hace Iris, piensa a futuro y en tu seguridad financiera.
Me gustó la historia, me gustó que la situación se hubiera dado de esa forma por algo tan simple como un error humano, porque al final del día esa clase de cosas suceden todo el tiempo, no importa que tan mastermind seas, la estupidez humana puede arruinar todo tu plan en un instante.
Est vez no sospeché nada del culpable. Es el primer relato sin Hercule Poirot que leo y admito que lo extrañé porque en mi mente sus diálogos tienen un marcado acento francés
This was a fun read! I was hooked until the very end. I love reading Agatha Christie because her characters are interesting and they're short, fun reads.

I'm not sure off the top of my head whether I've read any of the other mysteries featuring Colonel Race. With the following comical result:
Contains the usual Christie insight into what people are really like, what they think, and how warped good things (a mother's love, an inheritance, dedication and loyalty) can become. Success, what it is and what it means, also seemed to be much on Christie's mind as she wrote this particular tale.

In the end, I found the "bad guys" and their motivations completely believable, but the method less so. Do you really forget where you were sitting in a restaurant if you come back and someone has moved your purse? But I'll admit I haven't been in many - or any - nightclubs or whatever place the deadly parties were held in.

Near the end of the book, I thought I had it figured out for sure. The identity of the killer. I was happy to say I was wrong and gave me a nice surprise.
Two deaths occur a year apart, both by Cyanide. Suicide or murder? I enjoyed the chapters from the perspective of the different characters all of whom were suspects.
No Marple or Poirot. Instead, we have Poirot friend MI5 agent Colonel Race returning to help solve the crimes. Another winner from Christie.
